While Direct-to-Film (DTF) printing offers flexibility and vibrant results, it also comes with several drawbacks worth considering:

Additional Production Steps Unlike Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printing, which prints directly onto the fabric, DTF requires multiple steps: printing the design onto film, applying adhesive powder, curing the film, and then heat pressing it onto the garment. These extra steps add time and labor, making the process slightly more complex and less streamlined for high-speed production.
Limited Access to Specialized Supplies DTF printing relies on specific materials -- such as DTF inks, hot-melt adhesive powder, and compatible PET films -- which may not be readily available everywhere. Finding reliable suppliers can be a challenge, particularly for beginners or small businesses in regions with limited access to specialized printing products.
Stiffer Hand Feel DTF prints can sometimes leave a slightly stiff or plasticky texture on the fabric, especially with large, solid-colored designs. This "hand feel" is more noticeable compared to the softer, more breathable finish achieved with DTG or screen printing. It may not be ideal for garments where comfort and fabric softness are a priority.
